When I travel, I love trying ALL the cute and trendy foods. Especially the ones that stain my teeth :( Now that traveling is not an option, and I have been doing my part to stay home due to the virus outbreak, I have been snacking constantly! Even though I'm not really a wine or coffee drinker, there are so many other foods that cause teeth to stain, like acidic foods, sweets, and tomato sauce. Basically, my whole diet. If you know me, you know that I am crazy about sour things. I could eat a lemon.. And if I could live off one food forever it would probably be pasta with tomato sauce. So, naturally, my teeth are a bit stained. I wouldn't say it has ever really bothered me, but I do love taking photos on my travels, and I've always thought it would be nice to have really nice white teeth like I see in so many peoples' Instagram photos.
And I finally have those teeth!
When Smile Brilliant reached out to me for a collaboration, my first reaction was "omg yes!" But then I had a lot of questions. I'd never tried a teeth whitening kit before, and I was nervous about putting chemicals on my teeth, especially because my teeth are somewhat sensitive. At-home whitening is also so simple and so much cheaper than professionally whitening! They were able to answer all the questions I had and made me feel super comfortable about the whole experience. And now I can answer all your questions, too!
The whole process is super easy. I received a kit in the mail that came with:
- Two plastic impression trays (one for your top teeth, and one for the bottom)
- A paste used to create the impressions
- Teeth whitening gel
- Desensitizing gel
Before you can start your custom teeth-whitening process, you must create a mold of your teeth using the impression trays and the paste. There is an informational handout with helpful pics included that will show you exactly how to create your impressions. Once you make the molds, you send them back to Smile Brilliant using the prepaid postage packet that is provided in the kit. The Smile Brilliant team will create your custom teeth-whitening trays and send them back to you. Waiting was the hardest part of the process for me because I wanted to start whitening right away! After the trays arrive, you use the whitening and then the desensitizing gel syringes to apply the gel into the trays. The trays should be kept on for anywhere from 45 min-3 hours. And that's it! You can repeat the steps every few days for the best results.
Pros
- I was honestly skeptical at first and didn't think this product would work, but it really does!
- The instructions were super easy to understand and came with clear instructions and photos, which helped me a lot because I am a visual learner.
- The difference was already noticeable after the first use, which was really surprising to me!
- The ingredients are vegan and cruelty-free!
Cons
- Waiting on my trays to arrive after I sent in my impressions (but only because I'm impatient!)
- Keeping the trays in for so long (but also because I'm impatient!) Right now while social distancing is going on, and everyone is at home, there is no better time to do this. Watch a show/movie and relax!
- I didn’t want to swallow any of the gel, so I ended up drooling everywhere LOL, but this shouldn’t be anything to worry about. It was just my preference.
Tips
- When making your impressions, keep the tray in your mouth until the clay hardens like the instructions say, and don't remove them too early like I did the first time, heh.
- Whiten your teeth before bedtime so that you don’t eat/drink anything afterwards. This helps to make sure that nothing will stain your teeth right after your whitening session.
- If you experience teeth sensitivity, put Vaseline or some kind of oil on your gums! I have fairly sensitive teeth and I didn’t use the Vaseline or experience any discomfort.
- After my teeth whitening session, the whiteness looked a little patchy for a few minutes, but after using the desensitizing portion, my teeth looked more evenly white.
