1 Day in Tulum, Mexico

I've been seeing so many posts on Instagram and Pinterest over the years about Tulum, and I thought it looked like such a cute city! I was re-pinning so many articles, not really expecting to ever end up visiting (just like when I pin a bunch of recipes that I know I'm not going to make, heh). When I had the opportunity to visit Cancun recently with two of my best friends, I was so excited and made sure we scheduled a day to visit Tulum as well. Even though we didn't visit all the possible "Instagrammable" places, we went to a few and had a great time! The following list is in no particular order. I found each of these things to be equally as fun, so it all just depends on what you're interested in! :)

Relaxing

Tulum Beach

You cannot go to Tulum and not visit the beach! Right now, many touristy areas nearby such as Playa Del Carmen and Cancun have had a huge seaweed problem. The beaches are completely covered in seaweed, and in some areas it has been bad enough where the ocean is inaccessible. Tulum's beaches are very well maintained for the most part. The staff at resorts work really hard to ensure that the shore stays nice! Plus, there are lots of cute swings to pose with.

Food

Matcha Mama

This place is all over social media, so I knew that either it was just really good or really cute. It was both. If you're looking for an adorable place to cool off with some great, cold smoothies and smoothie bowls, this is it.

There are two locations, and I would recommend the one by the beach at Zona Hotelera.

Nekhtar

Another equally amazing acai place nearby (about a 2 minute walk from Matcha Mama), is Nekhtar. I could not get over how aesthetic it was, and I was so excited to try their bowls. It was SO HOT outside, so their bowls are the perfect healthy and refreshing snack!

Exploring

Walk/bike around

There are so many little shops along the street within walking distance of each other. The boutique items are pretty pricey, but still super cute. You can also rent a bike and ride along the street to enjoy the breeze from the ocean nearby!

Mayan Ruins

If you are interested in Mayan history, we did a short tour through the Mayan ruins. It was very interesting and informative. Even though a lot of their history is unknown, I loved walking through the ruins to see where and how they lived!

Adventuring

Cenotes

Lastly, visit a cenote! Cenotes are natural fresh-water holes. My favorite cenote would definintely have to be Cenote Ik Kil in Yucatán, Mexico, which is about 2 hours away from Tulum by car. Dos Ojos is a popular one in Tulum, but we went to Cenote Jaguar. The water was super refreshing, and we even jumped off a ledge! I hate roller coasters and anything that makes my stomach drop, but I decided to just do it. Check my Instagram story highlights to hear our terrified screams. Even though it was one of the scarier things I've done, I am really glad that I did it!

If you've been to Tulum, send me your photos. I would love to see them!
