4 Days in Puerto Rico

Pharmacy school is going by so fast! I can't believe that I've finished my 3rd year and am half way through my clinical rotations now. Relaxing days of summer and spring breaks are over! AND SO, I am trying to use my time wisely and travel as much as I can before I graduate and start adulting.

I spent my very last spring break in Puerto Rico with my pharmacy friends! I had heard some nice things about it, but I was definitely not prepared for how amazing Puerto Rico is. 11/10 would recommend. 4 days is honestly too short, and I am already planning my next trip back in the near future. However! If you're on a time constraint, here is my list of MUST-DO's that will make your time so worth it.

Day 1

Explore Old San Juan: Our AirBnb was located right in Old San Juan, which was so convenient, and so beautiful. This city is filled with vibrant, colorful buildings. If you like pastels, you will love strolling around here. It's a great place to relax, shop, and eat. The food is a bit on the expensive side, mainly because it's a popular tourist attraction.

Señor Paleta: To be honest, there weren't any meals that I tried that I really loved, and maybe it's because we didn't try the right places. But if you are looking for a cool, refreshing dessert, Señor Paleta is amazing and also just super cute! We went back 3 times.

Day 2

Cueva Del Indio: O m g. I really didn't know what to expect when we went here. It's a lot of walking, which I was not prepared for, so wear closed-toed shoes. The ground is very uneven and has sharp/jagged edges everywhere, so just be careful! But the VIEWS and the WATER. Everything was beautiful and the water was so blue. There is a cave that you can go through, but getting into it is hard without some help. The entrance is through a crack in the rocks a few feet above the ground as pictured below! The original entrance was lost after hurricane Maria.

Gozalandia is a place with a nice waterfall, but it was a bit underwhelming for me. It was also raining when we went, which could have contributed! If you go, DO NOT go when it's raining. Our car almost got stuck getting out and we thought we were going to be stranded there forever. Memorable :')

Day 3

El Yunque National Park is gorgeous and perfect for a nice hike. We did a tour through Fine Line Tours which provided transportation to and from Old San Juan and took us to both El Yunque and bio-luminescent kayaking. If you are looking to do more hiking, I would recommend driving to El Yunque on your own. The tour bus just drove through parts of the forest and let us out for photos. The kayaking tour was 100% worth it, though. Words cannot describe how amazing the kayaking tour was. It begins after the sun sets, and the plankton in the water glow when they're touched. It was such a calming and magical experience, and definitely my favorite part of the whole trip!

Day 4

On our last full day, we went to Cueva Ventana, which translates to "window cave." It's a short walk through a cave, but it leads to a breathtaking view! They don't allow people to go alone, but they have tours scheduled for every few hours. The rest of our day didn't go as planned but, we spent our last few hours at a nearby beach, Castillo San Cristobal (a nearby fort), and soaking in every part of Old San Juan and it's night life!

Cueva Ventana

Castillo San Cristobal

We didn't get a chance to go to Culebra, but if you are interested, definitely get ferry tickets in advance! It's definitely on my list for next time, as well as the Cabo Rojo salt flats and Toro Verde's zip-lining :)

If you have any recommendations for my next trip there, please let me know! <3
