A First Timer's Guide to Los Angeles

Los Angeles is one of the cutest and trendiest cities I've ever visited! I spent about 4 days here, but I would definitely come back just to try all the food that I missed out on. Food in LA is expensive, but every activity/place that we visited was free of charge, so we were definitely able to travel on a budget. This post contains the must-see locations to visit. A lot of these suggestions are your typical touristy things to do, but I would still recommend them, especially if it's your fist time visiting. Keep reading for my recommendations and tips to make your visit worthwhile!

Day 1

Griffith Observatory: We landed pretty late in the afternoon, so we decided just to visit the Griffith Observatory and watch the sunset. Los Angeles is really a beautiful city of stars. If you've ever watched the movie La La Land, there is a scene from the movie that takes place here. It is free to visit, and the view of the city is amazing! You are also able to see the famous Hollywood sign from here. Some people also hike to get a closer/better view of the sign, but decided not to do the hike.

*NOTE: Depending on your phone service, the signal up there is not good! We were able to get an Uber there, but getting back down was difficult because we had lost signal.

Day 2

Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA)

The Broad Museum: I just have to say, I LOVE this museum. It's very cute and has something for everyone! This museum is also free admission. I also love Yayoi Kusama's work, and the room "The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away" is available to view as well.

*NOTE: Although the museum is FREE admission, you have to reserve a ticket online! I recommend reserving the earliest time slot available if you are interested in seeing the infinity mirrors room. The wait time just for that room can go up to 4 hours, and you only get 60 seconds in the room. Once you are admitted into the museum, there is a kiosk where you can join the wait-list to see the room. After you get your wait time, you can explore the rest of the museum and even leave the museum and you will get a text message when it's time for you to enter the room.

Grand Central Market: Such a cute spot for some yummy food! It is basically a trendy food court with a variety of different foods whether you want to relive childhood memories with a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich at PBJ. LA or take your taste buds to the other side of the world for some Filipino food at the Sari Sari Store.

The Last Bookstore: This bookstore is known for its "Instagrammable" layout. I love bookstores and finding great books to read, and the atmosphere here is very calming and nice. They also have events like book clubs during the evenings.

Little Tokyo: If you're looking for some super cute shops, boba tea, cafes, or great Japanese food, this is your place. I could have spent an entire day here just to try all the food. It's a nice area to just walk around, and sometimes people will perform live music as well! Stay tuned for my blog post titled "LA Food Hunting" for the food places I tried while I was there.

Day 3

Hollywood: Before I thought about visiting LA, the only thing I ever heard about the city was about Hollywood. This was definitely my least favorite part about LA, and I probably spent less than an hour here. It was cool to see names of famous people along the Walk of Fame, but I really didn't care enough to look for any particular people.

Paul Smith's Pink Wall: The famous pink wall you see all over Instagram :') If you know me, you know that I am always looking for anything cute and pink.

Address: 8221 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046

Rodeo Drive: This place is filled with high-end shops. You will find super rich business people, fancy cars, and you might even spot a celebrity walking around this area. I definitely could not afford anything, but it was a great place to window shop.

Beverly Hills: Also a nice place to just walk around. We didn't stay here for long, but it was a nice place to stop by.

The Grove: This is a super cute outdoor mall area. We spent the rest of the evening walking around, shopping, and laying out in the grass. There were picnic blankets available for people to borrow, and there was live music playing, too! There is also a market attached with some great food vendors. Basically, it was the perfect end to our afternoon.

LACMA: Although we didn't go inside the museum, we went after sunset to see the famous Urban Lights installation. We came at a bad time (right after an event) and it was super crowded, so just make sure nothing is going on the night that you go!

Day 4

Venice Beach: I don't know if LA beaches are always like this, but I went at the end of May and it was FREEZING... There are a lot of souvenir shops and food vendors (I got the cutest acai bowl)!

Venice Canals: This is walking distance from the beach and was a really nice and quiet area to roam and relax. I wish I had gone kayaking through it!

Santa Monica Beach: The beach was nice, but not necessarily a place that I would go back to visit. The Santa Monica Pier has fun rides and things, so it's cute to walk around.

Los Angeles was so much fun, and I would definitely go back!
