Back in December, Mommy Chow invited me on a trip to Thailand to visit her best friend. Of course I had to say yes! I have wanted to travel to Thailand since before I could remember. Mommy grew up there, and I wanted to visit with her and see the country that she grew up in. Of course a bunch of things have changed since then, but it was still so nice to see it for myself rather than just hear her talk about stories!
Wintertime is the perfect season to visit because even though the weather is still warm, it was perfectly in the mid-70's the whole time. We even got lucky and didn't have a single rainy day! It was also so fun to travel with a friend who lives in Bangkok and could take us around to all of her favorite places. We also stayed in some reallyyy nice hotels. I am forever grateful to Auntie Monica for taking us around and for helping me live the lifestyle of my dreams LOL. Keep reading for my top 3 favorite things in Bangkok!
Where to Stay
1. Sofitel SO
I always saw this hotel on Instagram and thought it looked amazing, but I never expected to be surprised with a 2 night stay here! The rooms have 4 different themes to choose from (earth, water, wood, and metal). We went with the earth theme because it looked the most unique! Everything in this hotel was SO pretty. I could have stayed in the infinity pool for days. There's also a rooftop lounge area, and we were given complimentary drinks. The breakfast buffet is AMAZING, the best buffet I've ever had. I still think about it. Watch my Instagram highlights for some of the videos!
2. Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok
This hotel is surrounded by pools and looks gorgeous. The rooms were super clean and nice, and the breakfast buffet here was also so good! We were able to sit outside to enjoy the amazing weather and the view was so calming because we were surrounded by water.
What to See
1. The Grand Palace
It really is grand. This is definitely one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bangkok, but it's worth it in my opinion! Every detail on the buildings are so beautiful and intricate. There is a dress code, though. Make sure to wear an outfit that goes down past your ankles and that covers your shoulders! It is also recommended to wear closed-toed shoes. And wear sunscreen! It was sooo sunny and HOT, and I was melting even in December. Lastly, please be respectful because even though it is a place that many tourists visit, it is also a place where locals will go to pray. :)
2. Fancy Malls
Icon Siam just opened about a year ago, and it is the perfect mall for window shopping (or actual shopping if you are willing to spend a lot). It is a beautiful place to walk around and has very extravagant decor and nice eating areas. They even have a section of it that resembles a floating market (photos below)! Paragon is also a really nice mall!
Definitely not your average mall! (Photos of the outside below)
3. Floating markets
Floating markets were very common in the past because that was the easiest way for people to trade goods. Now they are much less common and I think they're there mostly for tourists. I really like them, though, and I think it helps me understand the history of Thailand a bit more!
